Lacey Interview.

Lacey Interivew. NEW ADDED JULY 1st 2002.

Lacey Interview. Tony: Ok we are here with Lacey one of the most talented female workers in the upper Midwest thanks for doing this interview.

Lacey: Why thank you Tony

Tony: First question how did you get into wrestling first did your parents watch it or how did you hear about it?

Lacey: I've always watched wrestling for as long as I can remember. Eddie Sharkey was a family friend, so I was even around the independents as a kid.

Tony: Who were some of your favorites growing up?

Lacey: Oh I loved Jake the Snake....

Tony: Didn't the snake scare you?

Lacey: Never! My dad was scared though....

Tony: So what Indies did you have in your area and did u go to shows a lot?

Lacey: Well, as a little girl my dad would take me to some of Eddie's shows around town here, but I really don't remember them that well. I just remember a lot of really, really big guys around me and my mom hating it. As I got a little older I didn't go to Indies anymore, I don't know why, I just had lots of other stuff going on.

Lacey: When I was a kid I remember wishing that I were a guy so I could be a wrestler. Even though I had seen women like Terri Powers on GLOW when I was younger, it never really hit me that I actually could offer something to the business as a woman until I was a bit older.

Tony: Did you get any pressure from Eddie or your dad to join wrestling?

Lacey: Not really, my dad never took me seriously when I said I wanted to wrestle. He did encourage me, but he didn't really believe me. Finally I found a place to live out East and somewhere for my horse even, so I could go to camp out there, then he decided to believe that I was serious.

Tony: Why did you decide to join the wrestling business?

Lacey: It is just something I have always loved, and for some crazy reason I could totally see myself doing it and loving it. It was just something I knew I had to do.

Tony: Were both of your parents supportive of this choice of yours to join wrestling?

Lacey: My mom was not so supportive of wrestling, but she wants me to be happy.

Tony: How did you go about being trained?

Lacey: Once my dad realized I was really going to do this, he took me to see Eddie and I decided to stay in Mn and train with him.

Tony: Were you nervous about training?

Lacey: I was more excited than anything.

Tony: What was the training like and was it what you expected?

Lacey: Well, I didn't really know what to expect, I thought it would be hard, but fun...and that it was.

Tony: How long was the training and who were some of your fellow students that trained with you?

Lacey: Training is never done....I wish I had more time to go to camp now. I went 3 days a week for a year at least, maybe more than that, I don't know. Lately though I just don't have time anymore. I started the same time as Shawn Daivari, and I had guys in camp to work with like Austin Aries, Helmut Von Strauss (Justin Lee), Shifty, and a lot of other guys would stop by from time to time to help us out like Mitch Paradise, Magnus or Lenny

Tony: Besides wrestling what are some other top athletic accomplishments you have had ?

Lacey: I danced for 16 years, was certified as a professional ballet dancer, and I am also a competitive equestrian.

Tony: Why do you think you did wrestling over ballet?

Lacey: Many, many reasons. For one, my body is not built right for it at all, so it is a constant, very painful struggle and my body was basically getting ruined from it. Not to say it is like this everywhere you go, because there are certainly wonderful places to dance, and wonderful people who are dancers, but eating disorders galore are involved and lots of drugs on the scene..its a tough world. I love ballet, but I could not see myself being really happy if that is all I did. I would have had to dedicate my whole life to it, I just did not have the time anymore.

Tony: When did you make your debut and for what company was it for and who did you wrestle?

Lacey: My first match was a handicap match with Shawn Daivari and Jake Ricker against Lenny Lane in Fridley, Mn for Eddie. I wish I would have known a lot more when I had that match, but I did really learn a lot from working with someone like Lenny. It was really great of him to do that for us.

Tony: How did the match go and how did the crowd react to you?

Lacey: Let's just say no one ever gets to see that match! The crowd ate it up though. Lenny had a great angle with us going...they loved to hate him, especially when he had three kids beating him up.

Tony: What year was that?

Lacey: August of 2000 I believe

Tony: Who were some of the people that took you aside early in your career and gave you advice?

Lacey: Eddie of course, he has so much knowledge and I have endless respect for him. I also learned a great deal from Lenny. Also guys like Scotty Zappa, Magnus, Chi-Town Thug, Charlie Norris, and many others were around to help me out. Another worker I would like to mention that I have learned a lot from just recently is Horace the Psychopath. I really enjoy talking with him about the business, he knows so much.

Tony: Who were some of your early opponents in your career?

Lacey: I worked Ashley Xavier and only Ashley Xavier for a while. I have worked other women such as Miss Natural (trained by Patera), Autumn Hayze, Heather Whitefeather, ODB, and of course Rain.

Tony: What were some of the places you worked early in your career?

Lacey: Let's see....MIW, MPW, WA2K, PWA, FLWA, R & R Wrestling, ACW, AAW...I think that about covers the earlier promotions

Tony: What were some of your favorite early matches?

Lacey: Working with Miss Natural was a lot of fun, I learned a lot from her. Working Ashley at X-Fest was really cool......

Tony: Did you see wrestling as a full time job or just something on the side for fun?

Lacey: Someday I hope a full time job

Tony: Describe Lacey the wrestler and Lacey the Person to us.

Lacey: Well, I'm not much different as a wrestler and a person. I am the typical babyface usually....I want to work hard, learn as much as I can, and always do the best that I can.

Tony: Did you want to be a heel or a face?

Lacey: At first I think I wanted to be a face, but now that I've done both I really like heeling too....it is so much fun to be something totally different from me. Heeling just seemed scary to me at first, I don't know why.

Tony: When was the first time you met Rain and your initial impressions of her?

Lacey: The first time I met her was at an MPW show, oh, I don't even know, over a year ago. She was managing Sam Hayne. I didn't really talk to her much. I didn't even know she had any interest in actually wrestling until she later came to camp.

Tony: When was your first match with Rain and did you guys click right away when you wrestled?

Lacey: I honestly can't remember this one....it was either a tag match for MIW with Phoenix and Autumn Hayze or it was in Omaha.....but either way, yeah, I think we clicked right away. She was someone who picked up on stuff so fast, and had a really good, quick pace in the ring. She was also smaller than me, which was a change. Working with her was different than working with anyone else that I had before.

Lacey: Yeah, I think it was the tag match......

Lacey: But we barely even worked in that match, I was really sick...so Omaha counts too

Tony: How did you meet the man himself Dave Prazak and your initial impressions of him?

Lacey: I met Prazak at an SDW show in St Paul....I thought he absolutely hated me....that was my first impression

Tony: Why did you get that impression?

Lacey: Oh I don't know...I think he was just really quiet

Tony: Maybe he was just shy because you were so pretty!

Lacey: HA! Highly doubtful!

Tony: Did you suffer a lot of injuries early in your career?

Lacey: I have a bulged disc in my lower back....that happened pretty early on, but it doesn't bother me all the time, thank goodness. That was the worst of it.

Tony: How did you get into SDW?

Lacey: Rain and I called up Ed Hellier and said "Can we work your show?"

Tony: LOL

Tony: When did you guys debut?

Lacey: Yeah, pretty simple

Lacey: For SDW?

Tony: yes

Lacey: umm, December 29th

Tony: How did your match go?

Lacey: I think it went well, it was a lot of fun. I usually don't get nervous, but working at SDW made me really nervous the first time, I wanted to make a really good impression.

Tony: How did the fans react to you guys?

Lacey: I think they were really into it.....

Tony: What has been your favorite match you had in SDW?

Lacey: Well, I really liked our first one, the tag with Horace, Rain, and Lynch, and the 3-way with ODB

Tony: What was it like working for ACW?

Lacey: Generally ACW shows are soooo much fun.....

Tony: And why is that?

Lacey: The people were great, the shows were great, just a good atmosphere

Tony: How is the SDW Locker room?

Lacey: I really enjoy working for SDW....it is generally a great atmosphere also

Tony: How did you get booked in MAW "Did you call Carmine and Say I wanna work your show?" LOL

Lacey: Yes, actually.

Tony: What was your MAW debut like?

Lacey: Well, rushed...we had an NAWF show that same night....so we got there, had our match, and left basically.

Tony: How did the crowd react to you?

Lacey: I don't really remember our match....I think the crowd reacted well.....I don't recall any "Boring" chants or anything of the sort so that is always a good sign!

Tony: What is it like working with Dave Prazak against him that is

Lacey: Its actually pretty fun....I get to throw a guy around....that rules

Tony: Tell us about your IWA Debut and how you think it went and how the crowd reacted to you two.

Lacey: I think it went pretty well, except for Rain getting her foot broken. The crowd seemed to respond well and enjoy our match.

Tony: How did CZW come about?

Lacey: Well, Rain and I have watched some tapes and always just thought it would be fun to go there but you know, yeah right....like we would ever go to Philly to work....but Mondo told us to send in our tapes and stuff, and that it would be worth a shot, so we ended up going to Philly after all.

Tony: How nervous were you going into the match with Rains foot being broken and your back hurting and the CZW crowd which is not very nice sometimes.

Lacey: Oh god, I was pretty nervous.....injuries galore and a notably tough crowd.......it was scary. We had one shot for a good first impression, it was a lot of pressure.

Tony: How did the locker room react to you two?

Lacey: I think everyone liked us, I hope! Everyone was so nice!

Tony: How do you think the match went and were you happy with it?

Lacey: Well, I am never, ever, ever "happy" with a match I am in....there is always so much more I could have done when I look back....but considering all of the injuries and things against us that day, I say it went pretty well.

Tony: How do you think the crowd reacted?

Lacey: I was very surprised....for the most part they were really into it I think. I was scared they would hate us and the place would be silent, either that or they would boo us out of the building, but that was not the case.

Tony: Ok how long and how hard was the road trip to Philly that weekend?

Lacey: It was very, very, very, very long!!! No sleep...no healthy food....having to get back for finals Monday morning...yeah...but aside from all that and the MELTED tire we had it really was quite fun.

Tony: LOL tell us about the melted tire

Lacey: Well...it just went flat while we were in the middle of construction with no shoulder...so we had no choice but to drive on it for a few miles...and by the time we could pull off it was just melted and torn to pieces

Tony: How did everyone in CZW treat you and would you like to come back?

Lacey: Everyone there was soooo nice...I absolutely loved it there. It was great and I would definitely love to go back!

Tony: A question I forget about Were you upset you didn't get to work Sherri Martel in MAW since she got injured

Lacey: Yeah, it would have been so great to work with someone like Sherri Martel. I could have learned so much working with her. I am glad I got the chance to talk with her though a few times before she got hurt, so even though I did not get to actually work her, I was still able to learn from her.

Tony: Why should someone book Lacey what do you offer?

Lacey: Well, I am a woman who knows this business. I always work as hard as I can to do my best and give 110%. I have something to offer to shows that many women do not...I wrestle, I am not just a ring slapper or T & A. And I absolutely love what I do...that always makes it more fun to watch I think.

Tony: What are your goals in wrestling when you started?

Lacey: When I started I had the goal to learn as much as possible and work as hard as I could to get somewhere someday doing what I love to do.

Tony: What has been the highlight of your wrestling career so far?

Lacey: I would have to say going to Philly to work CZW

Tony: What is the one thing you would most like to improve on?

Lacey: Oh god, everything.

Tony: What do you mark out for?

Lacey: Boo Berry Cereal!!!!!

Tony: Count Choucla is better!

Lacey: No way!!

Lacey: Never!

Tony: BLAH

Tony: What is the one thing that surprised you about the wrestling business?

Lacey: People will pay you for a picture of yourself....craziness

Tony: What is the worst crowd you ever worked in front of?

Lacey: What do you mean by worst?

Tony: Such as a crowd who just wanted to see T and A and didn't care if you wrestled.

Lacey: Well, I don't know really....I thought the CZW crowd would be mean to us, but they weren't....same with IWA...I guess I can't really complain about a crowd anywhere....unless I just don't remember

Tony: What are some places you would like to work that you haven't?

Lacey: Just other places outside of Mn....I want to get out there as much as I can

Tony: What is the best thing about this business and the worst thing?

Lacey: The best thing is that if this is something you love, you will have so much fun if you hang with the right people...you always hear about the shitty people in this business, and yeah, its true, there are definitely some shitty people, but you can also meet some amazing and wonderful people. Wrestling is definitely an adventure. The worst thing I guess would be that there just aren't enough jobs for all of the talented workers out there.

Tony: Now Lacey we cant do this interview without you telling us about your favorite thing in the world SHOPPING.

Lacey: ugh, heh

Lacey: Shopping is evil, evil I tell you.

Tony: Only evil if you don't know when to stop!

Lacey: Oh I wouldn't know ANYTHING about that....

Tony: Besides wrestling what are some of your favorite hobbies?

Lacey: Riding my horse, working out as much as possible with my crazy busy schedule, and dancing....Now that I think of it though, working out, school, real world job, and watching wrestling tapes is ALL I do...the day needs more hours.

Tony: I know it is said a lot but how hard is it being a woman in the business?

Lacey: Honestly, I never thought it would be this hard. If you are a woman, the rumors automatically fly like mad about you, no matter what. It is so hard to get respect...it can be really, really tough on you.

Tony: How much time do you spend on wrestling each week?

Lacey: I need to spend more...It is really hard for me to get to camp with going to college full time and having two jobs....and trying to see my horse once and a while too....and working out..yeah...like I said before, there need to be more hours in the day.

Tony: Favorite Movie and Music

Lacey: Ummm, I am not much of a movie person, but I really like The Stand...based on the book by Stephen King. I am a huge 70s and 80s rock mark!

Tony: Ah the Hair Metal days?

Tony: What is the best rib you have ever seen pulled?

Lacey: Yes, Hair Bands rule...

Lacey: What happens on the road/in the locker room stays there!

Tony: What is the best match you ever saw live?

Lacey: That is a tough one....Austin Aries matches always amaze me....I really liked Trent Acid vs. Jerry Lynn for the May 11th CZW show

Tony: If you could wrestle anyone alive or dead who would you pick?

Lacey: Molly Holly or Madusa

Tony: Favorite Crowd to work in front of?

Lacey: I love SDW...IWA and CZW ruled too

Tony: Any advice for someone trying to break into wrestling?

Lacey: Only do it if you love it and are going to stick with it no matter what....and make sure you listen to the right people, don't get mixed up with the wrong crowd

Tony: Favorite Match you and Rain have had

Lacey: I liked our mixed tag in SDW a lot with me/Horace vs Rain/Lynch

Tony: Besides Rain who do you like working?

Lacey: Well, there aren't that many other women out there, but Ashley Xavier is always fun, and Miss Natural was great too. I'd really like to work against Phoenix...working with her as my partner was great.

Tony: tell us about some of the moves you do

Lacey: Oh I don't know...I am constantly trying new moves and adding new things

Tony: Who do you admire the most in this business?

Lacey: I really admire and look up to Eddie Sharkey

Tony: What has been the low point of your wrestling career?

Lacey: Being really sick and hurt has held me back a bit, and I always like to give 110%....I actually had to take a month or so off a while ago...it really sucked....

Tony: What is your future in wrestling?

Lacey: I hope that I can keep doing this and eventually make some money at it

Tony: OK Name Game

Tony: Mike Mercury

Lacey: Mike has accomplished so much with ACW....he is a very smart business man. Great guy to work for, all around good person.

Tony: Lenny Lane

Lacey: Lenny taught me so much about the business. If it weren't for him, I don't think I'd be where I am today. He is very talented, and I wish him the best.

Tony: Dave Prazak

Lacey: Prazak is a great MAN-a-ger.....he knows so much about this business as well....

Tony: Nick Mondo

Lacey: Mondo is like a brother to me. People give him shit for working in CZW and supposedly just being "hardcore." I have seen him wrestle...he knows his shit. Slappy McLeg!!!!!! Gotta love those Mondo Marks too....

Tony: Rain

Lacey: Rain is by far my favorite woman to work with in the business. I have learned so much from working with her, she has really pushed me to step up my game. I owe so much to her....she is a wonderful heel, she is so good for what little time she has been doing this.

Tony: Autumn Hayze

Lacey: I have had a lot of really fun matches with Autumn Hayze, I would like to work with her again!

Tony: Phoenix

Lacey: I would love to work against her...I've only teamed up with her once...I hope she moves back to the Midwest area so we can work together again.

Tony: Ashley Xavier

Lacey: I started out working with Ashley. We worked each other so much...we had a lot of great...and of course some not so great matches. We learned a lot together. I'm really glad I had her there with me at the beginning. I hope to work with her again sometime soon!

Tony: Sherri Martel

Lacey: What can you say about someone like Sherri? She's someone to learn a LOT from...I wish I could have worked with her more in MAW. She was an awesome person and I loved talking to her while she was working in MAW. She is scheduled to ref our match at the Target Center in August for SDW...It will be great to see her again!

Tony: Dino Bambino

Lacey: Dino is an amazing worker. He can do it all, and he makes everything look so easy. Very talented. He is also one of the nicest people....just a really great person.

Tony: WWE Divas

Lacey: I really don't watch wrestling all that much anymore. From what few minutes I have seen here and there though I am glad to see they are using women more for WRESTLING...not just T & A.

Tony: Horace the Psychopath

Lacey: Horace is a great worker. I have learned a lot from him. He is great to just sit and talk with about the business....he knows so much. I am really glad I have gotten to know him...I have a lot of respect for him.

Tony: Dana Darling

Lacey: I've only met her once at MAW...would be cool to work with her.

Tony: Well Lacey thank you very much for doing this interview I appreciate it and best of luck to you in your future anything you want to say to your Fans?

Lacey: Just thanks to everyone for giving women a chance to wrestle and prove themselves before assuming they are just another ring slapper.....Thanks Tony!
